LISA DEBAILLIE

Directing / Lighting / Writing

Lisa Debaillie is a Belgian based filmmaker with a focus on directing and lighting. In 2019 she started the bachelor Linguistics and Literature studies with the options English and Theatre, Film and Literature at the University of Antwerp. Here she got her first introduction to the film world. During her first year she realised her passion was in the making of movies. So, she decided to reorient to the LUCA School of Arts in Brussel. Here she started the bachelor Film, TV and Video at Narafi. She got to know all the technical knowhow in detail for both the film and tv world. In her last year she specialised in the making of fiction films, specifically in the directing and lighting department. In 2022 she went on an Erasmus programme to the University of South Wales in Cardiff, where she joined the film students for one semester. It is here that she got her introduction to experimental filmmaking, which has stuck with her to this day. In 2023 she graduated at Narafi and decided to expand her knowledge and started the bridging programme to the master Film at the LUCA School of Arts, campus Sint-Lukas.

Lisa’s work explores and dives into the mental health of people. She has worked around the themes of memories, setting boundaries and toxic households. Coming from a troublesome home she hopes to fight the prejudices that are still living in society. With her work she hopes to bring understanding and a truthful representation.  Lisa feels most at home in the fiction genre and has the most experience in this.

She did an internship with the production company Dingie for the film ‘The Claus Family 3’. Here she was mainly responsible for the extra’s and got a preview of directing in working with them. Her experience in the light department has come from working on many student projects at Narafi. Where she helped as gaffer for a graduation film and as best boy (girl) for the multicamera graduation show.

After her immersion into experimental filmmaking at the University of South Wales, she decided to dive deeper into this genre. She is currently exploring this at the Sint-Lukas in Brussels. Her current project, her bachelor film, is an experimental representation of leaving a toxic household and all the emotions that surface.
